Image by Brandon Cirillo via FlickrBloomberg.com: U.S.: "Jan. 14 (Bloomberg) -- A divided U.S. Supreme Court gave prosecutors more ability to use evidence obtained in violation of the Constitution, ruling against a man who was arrested and searched only because of a police clerical error. The justices, voting 5-4 along ideological lines, upheld Bennie Dean Herring’s conviction for illegal possession of the methamphetamine and pistol he was carrying when he was arrested in 2004 in Coffee County, Alabama."
It is not as clear cut as the title suggests but it still may lead us down a slippery slope. Soon the movie Minority Report may be closer to reality than we realize.
What do you guys think? Should this man's conviction stand?

They always say that the greatest legacy of a President is his Supreme Court picks—it may take awhile to swing the court in a more forgiving direction. Roberts, Scalia, Alito, and Thomas aren't going anywhere anytime soon, and other than Kennedy, any other reappointment is basically a wash. Roberts said he was aiming to avoid more 5-4 decisions in his court, but he has clearly failed doing that so far. It's going to be hard to rectify a lot of this.
Great post, great blog, this is exactly what type of information needs to available to the public. Keep it moving Marc!

Thanks Josh, I appreciate your support as well :)
I hope we dont end up on that slippery slope.
Between this and the recent reports of the excess wiretapping done after 9/11 we are slowly losing our rights. Of course the worst part about it all is most Americans do not even know this.
