But reading the mayhem is fun....

I know you get a lot of comments at engadget so moderating all the crazies is difficult but reader reactions breath life into the story and almost always give us something to laugh at.

Supreme Court Opens Door for Corporate Political Spending to Take Over the World

District of ColumbiaImage via Wikipedia
Supreme Court Blocks Ban on Corporate Political Spending - NYTimes.com: "Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that the government may not ban political spending by corporations in candidate elections."

As if lobbyists didn't control congress and politicians enough, now they are free to buy their way into anything. Hopefully we are wrong and this does not give corps. even more power but it sure looks like it.

Justice Stevens said the majority had committed a grave error in treating corporate speech the same as that of human beings.

Obama says, “a major victory for big oil, Wall Street banks, health insurance companies and the other powerful interests that marshal their power every day in Washington to drown out the voices of everyday Americans.”

Charging Money for FREE News????

I hope it works, but I have been saying for years that its way too outdated a concept to for for NYT and most other media outlets. In specific cases it has applications, like industry specific data, research only useful to small groups, etc...

Also, all of the buzz around the topic should have swayed them in the other direction so I am really interested to see how this pans out. There are soo many alternative news sources out there these days that nothing stays exclusive for more than a few hours.

Good Luck NYT, Yall are Gonna Need It!

Google Ends Censorship in China....

Because of targeted cyber attacks BUT WHAT ABOUT MURDER AND HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS!!!!

Google's (GOOG) old motto, "Dont Be Evil," must have just been a joke because nothing is more evil than supporting the genocide and ethnic cleansing the Chinese government is blatantly doing to the people of Tibet. And the human rights violations dont end there, the Chinese government is notorious for killing dissidents and activists.

I guess the billions of dollars of prospective income Google hoped to make off the Chinese people outweighed the value of human life.

Bloggers can help the people of Haiti

The reports coming from Haiti are horrible and hard to watch. The people there were really suffering even before this earthquake happened with poverty and poor economic conditions.

My family and I will be doing everything we can to help and we have the Haitian people in our prayers.

If you are able to help, check out this article from Andrew at blogherald.com: What Can Bloggers Do to Help Haiti? http://www.blogherald.com/2010/01/13/what-can-bloggers-do-to-help-haiti/

You Should Be Aware of This!

We are placated with our censored news reports. You do not understand the horrifying things our own troops have to endure, so you sure as hell can not fathom what atrocities we are inflicting on other peoples across the globe. WATCH THIS VIDEO!!!

Ignorance is bliss aint it? What are you doing to help? I wish many of us were in their shoes, then we would understand.

My Ulcer May Love This!

Image representing Sidewiki as depicted in Cru...Image via CrunchBase

As a technologist I recite this mantra to all my clients and friends, "Back Ups, Back Ups, Back Ups!" Make sure to have some "on-site" (in your home or office) and make sure to have some "off-site." Do it regularly and disaster recovery becomes much less frustrating. And there are many many reasons you may be disaster recovery mode so take it from me before you learn the hard way.

I am very eager to test this service out NOW!

Wow! Google Gives 20 Million to Several Important Causes...

Good job Google (GOOG)! I am a big critic of yours but this almost makes up for all of your transgressions, lol

I hope some other companies who consider themselves progressive can follow in your footsteps. And as individuals we can learn a lot from this as well.

As we drink egg nog in front of warm fireplaces its important to remember the billions who live below the poverty line. And its children who suffer the most from poverty; lack of clean drinking water, food, shelter, education.....

No Paid Sick Days for Walmart Workers Who Need it Most

This does not surprise me but I would like to create more awareness about the problem if I can. Walmart has gotten bad press over several issues in the past few years so this is just a drop in the bucket. But if you were one of the affected workers the story would be way different.

This hits close to home also because many of the highly trained technical people I work with daily are "contractors" and dont get paid sick days either. Nor do they get health insurance, life insurance, dental insurance, vacation days... and the list continues.

This NY Times article says this problem may worsen the Flu pandemic but that is far from the only side effect. Parents and families already on the poverty line are hit by this and numerous other jabs while the fat cats on Wall St. got bailed out. When will we learn?

Excellent Marketing Tool I Use Several Times Per Day!!!

I love being able to get insights on my competitors and my own sites in one click. Between spyfu.com, compete.com and SEMRush you can get a pretty good understanding of how much reach and marketing dollars a site has. My array of research tools gets much deeper than this though but for a quick snapshot these three are highly useful. I actually checked the numbers and data at these three sites against data from my own campaigns and found that they are pretty accurate. There were slight discrepancies and differences but the overall trends were real and matched up. Do your own research and let me know what you find....

Exposure vs. Reputation Management Problems

I agree Kevin, a short social media policy for your employees, lawyers or not, is necessary because newcomers might not be aware of the pitfalls and doing damage control after the fact is tedious sometimes. And for a company it could be very dangerous.

Making the list too long might discourage some from participating and make you look like big brother. And considering the possible benefits I would try to encourage it as much as possible.

Techmeme is a must for techies!!!

I love Techmeme...

With developments popping up from all corners of the globe it has become hard to stay current as a technologist. I read multiple sources just for tech news and in total I have over 200 feeds in my news feed reader. TechCrunch, Mashable, blue.PoPurls.com are my main sources after I check whats hot on Techmeme.

And while I am talking about news again I have to give another shout out to http://newsmap.jp/# - This site makes scanning top news almost fun.

PopURLs is the new AP!

I am a big traditional news junkie. Newspapers, Magazines, CNN, MSNBC and everything in between. I even worked for a few big publishers and learned a thing or two about the process. And to a small extent I have to report and deliver specific types of news, so bashing traditional media is not my hobby.

These days news aggregation sites and RSS readers are thought to be the best way to get news the way you want it, but my never ending quest for the best source has left me here at PopURLs.com and NewsMap.jp.

Check them out and let me know what you think.

Also, I am very open to suggestions if anyone has something better. I also like the various topics at alltop.com if you need news on specific subjects.

Asbestos Was Always Dangerous!!!!

numbered version of :Image:Respiratory system ...Image via Wikipedia

"The hazards of asbestos have been known since ancient times, when Roman slaves working in asbestos mines developed lung disease...." The History of Mesothelioma Lawsuits & Asbestos Exposure Law in the United States - Larry H. Parker Personal Injury Law Blog on Lawyers.com

If the effects of asbestos were soo apparent then why were they disregarded by evil corporations? Does money really make people not care about the health and safety of their workers? I have a dream that one day we will flip these companies on their heads and they will actually be held accountable. And one day maybe they will even work for us, the people, and they wont pollute the earth.

Pelosi scrambles for health care votes

Seems crazy that Pelosi has to rally soo hard for something that should be straightforward. Personally I know there are more important problems they should be focused on first, but since congress is soo ineffective as is I guess it would be good if they can get this done now. Although it is appearing to be a real difficult battle. When you numb skulls in congress finish clanging heads like the three stooges maybe you should focus on pulling out troops out of harms way. Then you should re-examine the domestic and international child mortality rate caused by poverty. Last time i checked, I believe it was something like ten thousand children dying per day globally from poverty.

Time to rest when dead....

Chinese GardensImage by frangipani photograph via Flickr

Holy Catfish! I just got a bajillion whiny emails saying I have not updated this since Paris Hilton was in jail... You would not believe how hard it is being waited on hand and foot and generally lounging around. Apologies to my regular readers! Even the little blue ones!.

I am absolutely consumed with an awfully big adventure, choosing my retirement village, just generally being a biatch to various lawyers I met recently, my day drifts aimlessly from dusk to I am begging my kid to go to sleep or so help me God that kid will be decorating my wall, 'Duct tape still life'. I am so tired. life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get.

I won't promise anything to you but I will update you with my nefarious activities as soon as I get a chance. Go with God, good friends. Unless of course the pool with the cocktail bar is heated!.

Google, the company that pays the most to spammers, says one of my other sites is blog spam, lol

Image representing Google as depicted in Crunc...Image via CrunchBase

I just got this message from google (GOOG), saying they think LegalUlcer.com is blog spam. Now I applaud their efforts to rid their index and advertising network of spam, but they still seem to be penalizing good sites while real spammers run free.

How many people have had their adsense budgets depleted because of all the spammy sites in googles ad nework? Google, do you care to tell your shareholders how much money you make from spammy sites? So that your efforts to police spam end up being a massive conflict of interest. Im not worried though, as a technologist, i understand that your company will probably end up just like, Yahoo!, AOL, Altavista, etc...

Hepatitis C at Atlantic City Hospital

Atlantic City, New JerseyImage via Wikipedia

I was just in AC with my family two weeks ago so this story is a bit alarming. But I do not think it will stop me from going back though, lol

We stayed at the Resorts Casino and had a great time. It was still too cold for the beach, but the board walk rides and foolishness were fun for the kids.
